5th PSC meeting for Village Courts Project
The fifth Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting of Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project was held on July 20, 2014 in LGD Conference Room.
Mr. Monzur Hossain, Senior Secretary of Local Government Division presided over the meeting. Mr. Nick Beresford, Deputy Country Director of UNDP; Ms. Yong Hong, Assistant Country Director of UNDP; Ms. Lenka Vitkova, Head of Operations-1, Delegations of the European Union (EU) to Bangladesh and Mr. K M Mozammel Hoq, National Project Director of Village Courts Project & Additional Secretary, LGD were present at the meeting.
Ms. Shamima Nargis, Joint Secretary, Local Government Division (LGD) and focal person of AVCB Project updated PSC members about the progress of the activities including followup status of decisions taken during the last PSC meeting. The meeting also discussed and endorsed the decisions taken in the 9th PIC meeting, the gap bridging extension (Jan-Dec’ 15) for the project and GOB contribution of US $ 1 million in this regard.
The meeting recommended LGD to initiate the TPP revision process accordingly. The meeting also discussed about Phase II preparation. EU and UNDP shared plans for the next phase formulation mission which is expected to be initiated in September 2014.
Mr. Sarder M. Asaduzzaman, Project Manager, AVCB project glanced at the revised AWP 2014 of the project and PSC members provided their valuable inputs through interactive discussions. The meeting was also informed about GOB fund allocation from ADP for making Ejlas in 500 UPs beyond the project areas which demonstrates GOB’s increasing interest to make the village courts functional across the country following tremendous results generated through current piloting. PSC members conveyed thanks to LGD for prioritising village courts service and allocating resources on this account.

Zaber, Deputy Secretary, LGD and Mr. Salahuddin Khan, Programme Analyst, Democratic Governance Cluster of UNDP Bangladesh attended the meeting.
