Phase out Workshops organized by Village Court project

As a part of its exit strategy Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project organized two district level workshops with the presence of district and upazila administration, UP Chairmen and Secretaries in Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar on 28 and 29 August 2015. The overall objective of the meetings was to make common understanding on the present performance of the village courts services and the smooth handing over of the project activities to the local administration.

Both the meetings were inaugurated by Mr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Additional Secretary of Local Government Division and National Project Director, Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project as Chief Guest and chaired by Deputy Commissioner of the respective district. DDLG of the respective district along with Sarder M. Asaduzzaman, Project Manager, Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project facilitated various sessions of the meetings. In his remarks, Mr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Additional Secretary of Local Government Division and National Project Director, Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project mentioned that, local administration and Union Parishod will take full responsibility in order to run the village courts after phasing out of the project. On behalf of LGD, he also provided necessary directions on how to run the village court after phasing out of the project, possible options for budgetary allocations for village courts maintenance and management, oversight functions by local administration etc. This series of phase out workshop includes more 12 workshops across the project areas.
