Phase out Workshops held in Narail, Chudanga, Gopalgonj, Rajbari and Pirojpur

In line with the process of phasing out of Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project, local administration organized four different district level day-long workshops on phase out strategy of village court project consecutively on 10, 11, 12 and 17 November 2015 in Narail, Chuadanga, Gopalgonj and Rajbari district and one upazila level day-long meeting at Bhandaria (Pirojpur) with the support of LGD. High officials of district administration, police administration, respective Upazila Nirbahi Officers, all UP Chairmen and Secretaries of project area under Narail, Chuadanga, Gopalgonj, Rajbari and Pirojpur districts attended the meetings. The overall objective of the meetings was to make a common understanding on the present performance of the village courts services and the smooth handing over of the project activities to the local administration.

All the meetings were inaugurated by the respective Deputy Commissioner of the host district as the Chief Guest along with the Police Super and Additional Police Super of the district as special guest. The DDLG of each district chaired the inaugural session of the event followed by a business session. In business session, the DDLG together with Mr. Anamul Haque Khasru, Training Officer, Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project, UNDP facilitated various sessions.

On behalf of Mr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Additional Secretary of Local Government Division and National Project Director, Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project, the Training Officer conveyed necessary suggestions and guidance on how to continue the village court service after phasing out of the pilot project. Earlier similar type of meetings were organized in Chittagong, Cox’s bazar, Magura, Faridpur, Nilphamari, Rangpur and Lalmonirhat district and the same will take place in remaining project areas e.g. Sylhet and Kishoregonj district soon to ensure smooth phasing out of the project and handing over the responsibilities of village courts to the concerned authorities.
