Wrap-up meeting of formulation mission on Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh Project Phase –II

The wrap up meeting of the formulation mission on Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh (AVCB) Project Phase 2 (19th March 2015) was an overall success. The meeting was presided over by the Secretary of the Local Government Division Mr. Abdul Malek. The Additional Secretary K. M. Mozammel Hoq, MoLGRD&C and National Project Director of the AVCB Project facilitated the meeting. The formulation mission discussed the current successes of the AVCB project and presented the obstacles, goals and budget the new implementation strategy would need. All of the stakeholders (EU, UNDP, LGD) agreed with the proposals suggested by the formulation team with the addition to explore the possibilities of increasing the scope of village courts to include additional areas.
A total of 24 participants including Mr. Nick Beresford (Deputy Country Director of UNDP Bangladesh), Ms. Blerta Cela  (Assistant  Country Director of RRMC UNDP Bangladesh), Mr. Rustam Pulatov (Assistant  Country Director a.i. UNDP Bangladesh), Ms. Anna Lixi (Section Head of Human Rights and Governance for the EU Delegation in Bangladesh), Ms. Julia Jacoby (Programme Manager for Human Rights and Governance EU Delegation in Bangladesh), representatives from ERD, Planning Commission, LGD, MIE Wing, AVCB Project and members of formulation mission attended in the wrap-up  meeting.

All of the stakeholders at the meeting came to the conclusion that the formulation is well underway to meet the necessary objectives in the second phase of the project. Secretary Malek expressed his satisfaction with the results of the project thus far while stressing key elements that need to be maintained for the project’s success such as cooperation with the local courts. Representatives of the UNDP and EU confirmed the necessity of the Secretary’s suggestion and further agreed that an expansion of the project will need additional necessary honing to achieve the project’s objectives.
