6th PSC meeting of Village Courts Project

The 6th Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting of Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project held on Thursday, 10 December, 2015 at Local Government Division (LGD), Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Mr. Abdul Malek, Secretary, Local Government Division (LGD) presided over the meeting. Ms. Pauline Tamesis, Country Director of UNDP in Bangladesh, Ms. Anna Lixi, Head of Governance Sector, European Union (EU) to Bangladesh and Mr. Md. Sirajul Islam, National Project Director of Village Courts Project & Additional Secretary, LGD, MoLGRD&C were present in the discussion. Mr. Sarder Md. Asaduzzaman, Project Manager, AVCB project updated the PSC members about the progress of the activities including updates from the last PSC meeting. The meeting discussed and endorsed about the last two PIC meeting decisions and Annual Work Plan 2015. The meeting was also informed about the AVCB project Phase II preparation and endorsed its duration four years (2016-2019) instead of five years. PSC members also well-versed about the phase out status of current phase of the project. It was expected, the momentum generated by the project for running village courts would continue even after phasing out of the project supports. Local administration is guided by LGD accordingly in this regard.

Among others, Ms. Francesca Ciccomartino, Task Manager, Delegations of the European Union (EU) to Bangladesh, Md. Sefaul Alam, Director General, IMED, Mr. Enamul Quader Khan, Joint Secretary, LGD, MoLGRD&C, Mohammad Nurul Islam, Joint Secretary, MoI, Md. Hedayet Ullah Chowdhury, Joint Secretary, MoHA, Mr. Mohammad Nazim Uddin, Deputy Secretary, ERD, Md. Shaiful Islam, Deputy Secretary, Cabinet Division, Mr. Sayed Md. Nurul Basir, Senior Asst. Secretary, LGD, A.H.M Kamruzzaman, Senior Asst. Chief, LGD and Mr. Salahuddin Khan, Programme Analyst, UNDP attended the meeting.

This was the last PSC meeting for the current phase of the AVCB Project, thus the Chair thanked all for extending their whole-hearted cooperation in running the project, project staff for continuous monitoring and supervision while donors’ contribution was highly appraised in this noble endeavor.

Finally, the meeting was ended with a vote of thanks to all by the Secretary, Local Government Division (LGD) Mr. Abdul Malek.
