Workshop on gender & human rights

As a part of its continuous endeavour to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes of key stakeholders on gender, discrimination against women, women’s empowerment and village courts trial process to pave the way for establishing a gender-friendly, responsive local justice system, the Village Courts Project with Upazila administration organised a day-long training workshop on Gender, Human Rights and Village Courts on April 27, 2014 at the Upazila Parishad Conference Room in Bhandaria of Pirojpur. The training workshop also aimed to broaden ownership among the women stakeholders, UPs and relevant GoB officials and pertinent stakeholders at local level in the efforts of activating village courts.

A total of 44 participants took part in the training workshop including upazila women and children affairs officers, Upazila Social Service Officer, representatives of Women’s Forum, female UP members, women CSO members, police officers, students, UP Chairmen, journalists, teachers etc.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Training Officer of Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project, UNDP Mr. Anamul Haque Khasru conducted the different sessions during this daylong training workshop. The training workshop created opportunity to enlighten participants in promoting gender equality, empowerment, inclusive participation and equal opportunities of engagement at Village Courts and UP activities.

Mr. AKM Shamimul Haque Siddiqee, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Pirojpur, inaugurated the event as Chief Guest while Upazila Chairman of Bhandaria Mr. Md. Atiqul Islam Uzzal Talukder and Vice Chairman Ms. Asma Aktar, attended the workshop as special guests. Mr. Kazi Mahbubur Rashid, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Bhandaria chaired the session. ​
