The delegation of ERD and UNDP visited Village Courts activities in Faridpur and Rajbari

Mr. Md. Ashadul Islam, Additional Secretary (UN wing), Economic Relation Division (ERD) together with Mr. Nick Beresford, Deputy Country Director, UNDP and Mr. Rustam Pulatov, Assistant Country Director, UNDP visited Aliabad union parishad of Faridpur Sadar upazila in Faridpur district on 29 October 2015. Dr. Abu Nayeem Mohammad Abdus Sabur, DC (Acting), Faridpur and Md. Jahirul Islam, UNO, Faridpur Sadar Upazila accompanied the team during the visit. To learn the experiences and lessons from AVCB project, the team joined in a meeting with UP Chairman, Members and Secretary of Aliabad UP and got the impression on the village courts services at local level. Later, they also observed VC documentation and an ongoing VC session in the same UP and greatly valued the on-going activities of the Village Courts project in bringing justice to the thresholds of the rural people.

The team had a chance to interact with the community through a courtyard meeting arranged in Ahladipur village of Alipur Union under Rajbari Sadar Upazila in Rajbari District. Dr. Syeda Naushin Pornini, DC (Acting), Rajbari and Mr. Dewan Mahabubur Rahman, UNO, Rajbari Sadar upazila attended the visit and expressed their appreciations to ERD and UNDP for their supports in ensuring access to justice for the community people in Bangladesh. The visit was also accompanied by Mr. Sarder M Asaduzzaman, Project Manager, AVCB project, UNDP.
