Local administration organized Phase out Meeting for Village Courts Project

As a part of phase out process of the pilot project of Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh, district administration of Magura and Faridpur organized two different day-long meetings on phase out strategy of village court project at DC conference room, Magura and Faridpur respectively on 26 and 27 October 2015 with the support of LGD. The overall objective of the meetings was to bring common understanding on the current performance of village courts and the phase out strategy of the project.

Both the meetings were inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of respective district as Chief Guest and chaired by the DDLG in Magura and ADM in Faridpur district while the representative of Police Super of the respective district was special guest in both events. Sarder M Asaduzzaman, Project Manager, Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project facilitated both the meetings. All UNOs, UP Chairmen and UP Secretaries of the project areas under Magura and Faridpur districts attended the meetings.

On behalf of Mr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Additional Secretary of Local Government Division and National Project Director, Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh project, the Project Manager provided necessary suggestive guidance on how to continue the village court service after phasing out of the pilot project. Earlier similar type of meetings were organized in Chittagong and Cox’s bazar last month and the same will take place in other project areas soon to ensure smooth phasing out of the project by handing over the responsibilities of village courts to the concerned authorities.
