Country Director of UNDP acclaims Village Courts
 
Ms. Pauline Tamesis, Country Director together with Ms. Shaila Khan, Assistant Country Director of UNDP Bangladesh visited Gajaghanta union parishad of Gangachara upazila in Rangpur district on 29 June 2015 and highly appreciated the on-going activities of the Village Courts project in bringing justice to the doorsteps of the rural peoples.
The Country Director had a fruitful meeting with Mr. Liakat Hossain, UP Chairman, Gajaghanta UP Uinion Porishad, UP Representatives and UP Secretary at Gajaghanta UP of Gangachara upazila in Rangpur where Ms. Shaila Khan, Assistant Country Director of UNDP, Ms. Sultana Yesmin (Deputy Secretary), Deputy Director Local Government, Rangpur, Md. Towhidul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Gangachara upazila, Mr. Salauddin Khan, Program Analyst, UNDP and Sarder M Asaduzzaman, Project Manager, AVCB project were present. Ms. Pauline interacted with the participants of the meeting very cordially over various issues of local justice and broader local governance and they briefed about the process and results of the Village Courts underscoring access to justice at a low cost and in a short period of time.
The Country Director also had the opportunity to observe an on-going trial session of a Village Court at Gajaghanta UP. Later on, she observed a courtyard meeting at Joydeb Kaipara village of the same union.
