Rangpur DC tracks village courts case data online

Local administrations is now increasingly demonstrating its attention to village courts services through strong monitoring, supervision and follow up. Mr. Farid Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Rangpur recently visited Parul union parishad under Pirgacha upazila on November 26, 2014 and enormously appreciated the on-going activities of the Village Courts Project for brining justice to the doorsteps of the rural people.

The Deputy Commissioner was keen to observe the village courts case data on Web-based VCMIS software which is now under piloting in 4 unions under Rangpur district together with 11 UPs in other districts. He applauded the piloting and recommended that it should be expanded in all the UPs in the district for ensuring transparency and accountability of VC services at union parishad level. He also said that this will strengthen oversight mechanism at local administrations' end. Underscoring the importance of village courts services for ensuring access to justice at a low cost and speedy manner, the Deputy Commissioner stressed on the necessity of continuation of project supports there.

Ms. Alia Ferdowus Zahan, UNO, Pirgacha and Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman, Parul union parishad accompanied the Deputy Commissioner along with Mr. Md. Mazbahul Azam, District Facilitator, AVCB Project UNDP during the visit.
